Leg problems can come in a variety of disorders, though the majority of issues originate in the veins. Those of us who are afflicted with aching, tired or swollen legs are often most affected by varicose veins. Left untreated, varicose veins can progressively worsen, possibly leading to a lifetime of poor health. The physiotherapists at Oriole Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre understand the issues involved with venous conditions and offer range of compression garments to help patients find lasting relief.
When you visit our office, our consultants will sit with you to discuss your ailment in detail to craft a specialized treatment plan, which may include compression garments to offer you the most proactive treatment possible.
Patients who are suffering the effects of venous insufficiency can greatly benefit from the application of compression therapy paired with regular use of compression garments. Varicose veins prevent proper blood flow throughout the leg muscles which can result in pain, swelling and in some cases loss of feeling. Along with varicose vein relief, our compression garments are effective in treating deep vein thrombosis, preventing blood clots, phlebitis, managing pain from leg ulcers, and reducing inflammation caused by arthritis.
Compression therapy is the application of external pressure on the limbs of the legs by a therapist’s hands or a compression stocking. The regulated pressure of the stockings allows venous pressure to be reduced and, as a result, circulation increases. Since the heart works against gravity to pump blood through the legs, compression stockings help ease the load on the circulatory system by supporting the natural contraction and relaxation of the muscles in the calf that support the leg veins.
Oriole Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre is ready to assist and work with you to create an effective treatment for your varicose veins and other venous conditions. After the severity of your condition is assessed you will be provided with compression stockings with one of the following pressure levels:
- 30-40 mm Hg (Extra Firm)
- 20-30 mm Hg (Firm)
- 15-20 mm Hg (Moderate)
- 8-15 mm Hg (Light or Mild)
